I've always felt that Scotland can't hold a candle to south of the Border when it comes to characterful country pubs, but here's one that is right up there with the best.
It has character in abundance; a cosy bar with Purdy the house lab perched on her stool and speaking to everyone who comes in. Antiques and memorabilia are everywhere. There are lounges on both floors and all including the bar boast log burning stoves.
Food is served everywhere and whist the choice is extensive, some dishes would grace any fine dining restaurant. Our deal included a limited but tasty continental breakfast, but a cooked option was available at an extra cost.
The four bedrooms are housed in a separate building just s few steps across the lane. Ours - room 2 - was extremely spacious, plus a decent sized bathroom with roll top bath.
For us, the Kirkstyle ticked all the boxes and we will certainly be back. -
