The Ardoe House Hotel is a beautiful building in a lovely setting.
The staff were friendly but service was slow.
It was the afternoon tea that was really awful.
The sandwiches did not taste nice. The scones were flat and heavy.
The gluten/diary free scone was hard and dry and tasteless.
I don’t know how they could go so wrong with sandwiches.

This was an exceptionally poor experience. We had booked a vegetarian option and a non vegetarian option.
For the vegetarian option we were presented with 4 very sad looking sandwiches - 2 with tomato and 2 with tomato and lettuce. Having tomato and lettuce as a vegetarian option is exceptionally poor especially as the non vegetarian option included smoked salmon.
The vegetarian option in total contained 4 sandwiches, 2 scones (who wants 2 scones?) and 3 tiny cakes (and I mean tiny). The non vegetarian option had 2 quarter sandwiches and a pie, in addition to the 2 scones and 3 tiny cakes.
Others who were having afternoon (including someone who had a vegan afternoon tea) had 4 sandwiches and a pie, so a total inconsistency in what was being offered.
We had to request our prosecco and despite raising concerns over the tomato / lettuce sandwiches both in the restaurant and as we left, no one from Ardoe House seemed bothered.

Our only problem is the seating for afternoon tea. We are both disabled and sitting in lean back chairs whilst trying to eat not comfortable

We were greetedby the most miserable receptionist, who didnt smile once and reluctantly showed us into the back restaurant, not to our booked table in the drawing room.
The music was weirdly mixed but wad ok.
The afternoon tea was ok, the pies wete exceptional, sandwiches were not tasty and the cakes were very chewy and not we expected from a 4 star hotel.
We would not go back or recommend it.

The tea was poor sandwiches were tasteless and bread dry scones were dry .My tea wasn"t very hot although the coffee was fine. It wasn't busy but had to ask for refills etc. have had far better experiences at less expensive places on Aberdeen. Maybe just a bad day but not what I had expected - was a wee treat for a dear friend so left disappointed he

Small pie and sandwiches tasty, scone rock hard and miniature Victoria sponge was soggy and inedible. Sadly would not return.
