When we arrived 2 coach loads of holiday makers had just arrived so the receptionist was rather frazzled and offhand with us. We asked about having a bar supper and were told that was not possible. A set meal in the dining room or nothing so opted for that. The food was not brilliant and could not get wine served at the table so had to go to the bar to pick up drinks and was a poor choice. Staff in the dining room were mostly students and were very friendly. Our room was clean and comfortable but without any frills. The hotel was fine as a base to use to explore the Borders so we enjoyed doing that. Probably wouldn’t return but that would be our choice as would have preferred to be in the centre of Melrose where there were lots of eating places etc. As far as recommending to our friends I’m not sure our friends would go as the eating and drinking arrangements were set up for groups on coach trips but there was absolutely nothing wrong with what they were offering at the price

Great stay at the Waverley, fabulous place to stay to explore Melrose, easy walking distance and to go to see the other Borders Towns. Very clean with very friendly staff and okay food at reasonable prices. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Very run down hotel that needs a lot of TLC. Hopefully they can bring the old building back to life but in the meantime I am not sure they should remain open.
