The hotel was lovely. Big rooms with a beautiful view over the golf course. Good leisure facilities with swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna. Excellent staff who were all very friendly.

A beautiful old country house , we had a spacious comfortable room . The bathroom was large with a powerful shower . The public areas were beautiful with cut floral displays , but a bit soulless , perhaps some low background music would help .
The dining area in need of attention, a big empty space . Staff were friendly but not well trained , did not appear to understand basic principles of managing a dining room . We asked to move table because we were sat in the middle of the floor with no other diners around us . There were numerous empty tables and the waiter went into Basil Fawlty like explaining as to why he could only offer us a table a foot away from where we were . Food was stodgy , we dined out in our 2nd night . Breakfast was more relaxed and there was ample variety from the hot and cold buffet.

We did have a lovely room. Hotel not suitable for disabled people. I am disabled and to access the pool had to climb 4 steps up then 18 steps down to pool! Also about 12 steps up from reception to the main part of hotel.
The staff were lovely . We had to complain the first night about my husbands main course. He couldn’t chew it! The manager was very nice and gave him a chicken dish but it was dried out ! We were given complimentary drinks. We were celebrating our 52nd wedding anniversary that night. The second night we just had a starter and I had a dessert.
One particular lady at reception had quite an abrupt manner, not very friendly and not very helpful.

We had the best time on a very wet couple of days. The location, the grounds, Our room, the staff, the food ,the lounges were all great.
You can eat in the formal dining room or in the conservatory bar which is much more chilled but need to book a table.

Hotel is in a beautiful location, and we spent a lovely weekend in Gatehouse of Fleet, however the hotel was a let down. The bar area was nice enough and busy with golfers post-round, and the drinks were fine. The restaurant meal was expensive and both our meals were overdone - I think they had been left under the hot lights far too long. It was very disappointing. The restaurant setting was odd. Old tables and chairs, it felt like a big function room rather than a restaurant. The restaurant staff were this hotels saving grace, they were lovely and friendly.
The hotel is old as expected. The decor is to be expected and I imagine a full refit of wallpaper and carpets to be out the question financially, but there is plenty small upgrades that could be made. The room had an old musty smell, it was disgusting and the windows didn't open much due to their age, which didn't help. There was no escape and it made me want to check out instead of spend time in the room. The bathroom decor is ancient, which wasn't too big a deal but the shower head has not been changed since at least the 1960s and was discoloured and disgusting, as was the ancient monstrosity hairdryer on the wall. The toilet could be updated too. Bizarrely there is modern black hand soap/ shower gel dispensers which look completely out of place in the 60s bathroom. The tea and coffee tray was an old canteen tray from the 1960/70s with horrible old canteen crockery. There are many small changes that could be made to modernise the rooms but they definitely need to start with a steam clean of the bedroom carpets and furniture and invest in some plug in air fresheners. I definitely would not return, or recommend the hotel. I never leave reviews but I was compelled to leave one about this place as it was so disappointing.
