Oversubscribed, poorly managed and complete miscommunication. The ice rink was pitiful

The ice needed scraping after sessions. Don’t eat the fudge from the ‘famous’ fudge stall. It was horrible.

We arrived at 10.30am as instructed for the 11am session. The gates were not opened until 11.05am and we had to queue until tickets were scanned at 11.16am. We got on the ice at 11.22am and were asked to leave at 11.45am. We therefore had 23 mins of skating instead of the 45 mins we booked and paid for. One of our group wears a size 12 shoe. They only had two pairs of skates in this size, one was full of water and the other had sharp plastic protruding into his feet so he had to give up. Skating on Christmas Eve is a family tradition for us, very disappointed this year and have requested a refund.

Our first time as a family doing ice skating and was scary experience, the ice rink was extremely slippy, everyone was falling about as it was that bad, too many people for a small space.

Booked for 11am with instructions to arrive early for your booking to check in and get skates etc. winterfest didn’t open until 11.04am. Headed straight to the ice rink and there is one young girl on by herself to take tickets and get skates, a security guard then helps her with skates. 11.08 and there is still no one on the ice skating. Was about 11.12 before we got on and there was still a massive queue behind us. There was no Marshall skating round to advise/ help people so was a mad free for all. The wooden barrister had skelfs the whole way round for those looking to hold on. Saw we had to leave rink at 11.45am which is fair enough but as we were all on late was a bit miffed and then a Marshall came on at 11.40 to get us all off the rink. Rink completely emptied by 11.46 am. We were lucky as we got to skate more than others but feels like a totally rip off. Had been last year and enjoyed but if you do this again next year I would highly advise having booking start at 11.30 if winterfest only opens at 11 to avoid this from happening again. But surely this would have been thought through especially with us being told to arrive early when booking. Really really disappointed this year.

We were not able to skate on the rink at 4pm, came off the ice after 5 mins. Total waste of time

Way too many people on at a time and ice not very well maintained so skating was pretty difficult

The lights were beautiful and very enjoyable to look at however. £10 for a tiny plastic cup with three halved strawberries and 4 marshmallows with a little melted chocolate on top and £57 for a bag of pick and mix. Are they for real? How are parents meant to take their kids to this and be able to afford those prices ? Shocking.
Ice rink - maintenance of the ice was horrendous which made it super unsafe to skate on. The staff were very young and had no control of the place. People were stealing the little seats for kids without paying and no staff seamed to care when we informed them which left us without one which we had paid for!

I was told to turn up 15-30 mins before booking. My booking was at 11am and it wasn’t possible to access area until 11 meaning I had to queue for 30mins outside with 3 young children which could have been avoided if this was made clear. Once gaining access and sorting boots for everyone it was 11.20 before we were on the Ice. At 11.45 we were told our session was complete. I paid £14 per person for 1 hour of skating and only got 25 mins and a lot of waiting around which should have been avoided. The condition of the ice was also very poor (especially considering we were the first session of the day) and all the skates were soaking wet (again poor considering we were the first session).
Would not waste my time or money on this again.

Started off great as we were near the start of the queue so one of the first on the ice. After about 15 mins when everyone was in though it was far too busy. So many people on the ice that the ice was actually cracking. There were numerous cracks and about 4 or 5 large, deep crevices that if you couldn’t avoid (because of the amount of people) would catch your skate and you were down. We did still have a good time and the atmosphere was friendly and festive it would just have been nicer if they hadn’t crammed so many people in to one session.
